Local Hospital Volunteering Departments

Boston Medical Center
The Boston Medical Center is a teaching affiliate for Boston University’s School of Medicine. It is located on BU’s medical campus, and is connected to BU’s Charles River Campus via the Boston University Shuttle. BMC is located in the heart of Boston and has the notion that everybody deserves exceptional healthcare, without exception.

 

Brigham and Women’s Hospital

The Brigham is the 8th ranked hospital in the U.S. It is located near Boston University’s Charles River campus.  All BWH volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and attend a New Volunteer Orientation. Seats for orientation are limited, so sign up well in advance!

 

 

Massachusetts General Hospital

MGH is one of the leading hospitals in the world (ranked top 3) and is one of the largest in Massachusetts. It is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School and can be reached via the Red Line on the Boston T.

 

 

Children’s Hospital Boston

Located at the Longwood Medical Area, Children’s Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in the world. It is ranked #1 in Cancer treatment, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and many other areas. Children’s Hospital is an excellent place to volunteer for those interested in Pediatrics and Oncology.

 
Beth Israel and Deaconess Medical Center

Like Children’s Hospital and The Brigham, Beth Israel and Deaconess is located in the Longwood Medical Area. It is a teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School and the official hospital of the Boston Red Sox.

 

 

Additional Resources

The Boston University Community Service Center as an excellent place for BU students to volunteer. Thee community service center is home to 13 student-run service programs, projects, and events. Last year, the CSC had 4,000 volunteers and contributed over 170,000 hours of service throughout the Greater Boston Area and around the country.

VolunteerMatch is an organization that helps to connect non-profit organizations with volunteers. Volunteermatch allows individuals to search for opportunities to  become involved in and contribute to their community. Volunteermatch is an excellent website for finding local non-profit organizations to become involved with or for finding short-term  volunteering opportunities.
